Pennsbury Education Foundation Pilots Cyber-Bullying Prevention Program

A $10,000 grant from Verizon Foundation helps William Penn Middle School to Pilot New Initiative with Bucks County Peace Center

 

The Pennsbury Education Foundation is pleased to announce a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation, which will be used to support a newly-developed cyber-bullying prevention program at the middle school level.

William Penn Middle School, one of three middle schools in Pennsbury, will pilot the program at the seventh grade level in cooperation with the Bucks County Peace Center.

"Verizon is proud to improve the quality of life for youth and families in Lower Bucks County by empowering the community with innovative tools and resources," said Daniel J. Reavy, Director of External Affairs for Verizon Pennsylvania. "We’re investing in programs, such as our partnership with the Pennsbury Education Foundation, to reach every type of learner across the lifespan and to touch people’s lives by focusing on education, health, and family safety in the 21st century. We understand that education does not begin or end in the classroom."

The cyber-bullying prevention program will take place in January 2012 at William Penn Middle School. Four Bucks County Peace Center educators will work directly with 14 classsized groups of students. The young teens will attend several cyber-bullying prevention workshops and an assembly program. In addition, two workshops will be presented for parents of the participating students.

"The students and parents here at William Penn will certainly benefit from this innovative cyber-bullying prevention program," said Laura Tittle, Assistant Principal, who will oversee the project at the school. "We appreciate the generosity of Verizon and look forward to working with the Bucks County Peace Center educators."

Survey data gathered from these stakeholder groups will be processed and analyzed by students and professors at Arcadia University in a partnership arrangement with the Bucks County Peace Center.        

The Pennsbury Education Foundation (PEF), a 501(c)(3) organization, supports and enhances education in the Pennsbury School District through new and innovative educational programs. The PEF also participates in the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program awarding tax credits to businesses that make contributions to the PEF.
