Pennsbury School Board Appoints Director Of Special Education

According to a news release, Susan S. Klyman, Ed.D. was appointed to the position during a school board meeting.

The Pennsbury School Board appoints a new director of special education. 

According to a news release, Susan S. Klyman, Ed.D. was appointed to the position during a school board meeting on Oct. 20.  

In the new position, Klyman will report to Pennsbury Superintendent, Dr. Kevin J. McHugh, Ed.D. She will also serve as a member of the superintendent’s cabinet.

The new duties entail Klyman providing supervisory oversight of all special education programs, as well as the development, implementation and administration of all aspects of the special education and gifted education programs. She will also oversee psychological and behavioral services, speech and hearing support, as well as occupational and physical therapy. 

In addition, Klyman will also be responsible for directing and overseeing the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 processes, and make recommendations for action to the Board of School Directors.

Klyman will replace Interim Director Israela Franklin on a date to be determined. Franklin was named to the position temporarily after Diane Paul resigned from the director position in June.

According to a news release, Klyman joins Pennsbury after serving since 2006 as Director of Student Services and Special Education in the Centennial School District.

From 2000-2006, Klymann held the supervisor of special eduation position in the School District of Cheltenham Township. She has also held various administrative positions in the Philadelphia School District.

Klyman earned her Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University, with an emphasis in educational leadership and curriculum. She holds elementary and secondary principals' certificates, both of which she earned from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey). She obtained a Master of Science degree in Speech Pathology from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Pennsylvania State University.
