Pennsbury Names New Special Education Director

The Pennsbury Board of School Directors appointed Cheryl A. Morett to become the next Director of Special Education for Pennsbury at the school board meeting held on June 13, according to a Pennsbury School District press release.

Morett will replace Interim Director, Carole Smith, up on release from her current employer. Morett will join Pennsbury after serving since April 2010 as Director of Student Services/Special Education and Federal Program Coordinator in the Wyomissing Area School District in Wyomissing. Prior to holding that position,

Morett was the Assistant Director of Special Education K - 12 in the Unionville - Chadds Ford School District in Kennett Square, from 2008 - 2010.

Morett also held previous teaching and administrative positions in the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown. As Director of Special Education, Morett will report to Pennsbury Superintendent, Dr. Kevin J.  McHugh, Ed.D., and serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.

She will provide supervisory oversight of all special education programs, as well as the development, implementation, and administration of all aspects of the special education and gifted education program.

She will also oversee psychological and behavioral services, speech and hearing support, as well as occupational and physical therapy.

In addition, Morett will be responsible for directing and overseeing the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 processes, and make recommendations for action to the Board of School Directors. 

Morett earned a Master’s degree in Leadership and Supervisor of Special Education from Arcadia University, where she is also currently working toward a Superintendent Letter of Eligibility.

In addition, she holds a Master’s degree in Special Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, both from Arcadia.
