Pennsbury Athletes Make College Choices

Four Pennsbury seniors' futures are set.

Ken McCormick, Kelsi Bunda, D’Anna Devine and Savanna Grantham each made their college commitments official in a press conference held at Pennsbury High School on Thursday.

Bunda, Devine and Grantham star on the powerhouse softball squad, while McCormick patrols center field for the baseball team.

Devine, a USA Junior Softball Team selection last summer, will attend South Florida. She’s a versatile player who’s played center field, second base and catcher throughout her playing career.

"Their coaching staff is amazing," Devine said. "The head coach has been following me since eighth grade; it just made it so much easier. And the weather is just a bonus."

Devine hopes to start as a freshman, and just wants to win. Alabama and Auburn were her other options. She talked about her favorite memories thus far as a Falcon.

"Every Neshaminy game that we play is my favorite," Devine said. "It’s such a rival school. We always know it’s going to be a good game. It’s always fun playing them."

Speaking of the Pennsbury/Neshaminy rivalry, Kelsi Bunda made a throw last season that will be forever entrenched in Falcon softball history.

In the final inning, Neshaminy was down 2-1 but had a runner on third with one out. Bunda played right field at the time, and the Redskin batter flew out to right.  The Redskin runner on third tagged and Bunda threw a strike and gunned down the runner at home to win the game for Pennsbury.

It will always be Bunda’s favorite moment as a Falcon. Bunda, currently playing center field, chose Holy Family.

"It’s so close to home. I can play softball and my parents can come and watch me all the time," Bunda said. "Their nursing program is perfect for what I want to do."

Bunda wants to be a nurse anethesist.

Unfortunately, first baseman Savanna Grantham was unable to attend the press conference due to a knee injury she suffered at a recent Falcons practice. She’ll be attending East Stroudsburg.

"She’s an awesome player," Devine said. "I love playing with her. She’s such a good teammate."

Due to the injury, Grantham will miss the entire upcoming season.

"When we heard the news of her tearing her ACL, everyone was upset. We’re just going to have to work harder. We’re going to make it far this year. I know we are," Devine said.

Ken McCormick is the only player from the baseball team who’ll be continuing his baseball career at the collegiate level next season. He’ll be attending Philadelphia University.

"I really liked the campus at Philadelphia University," McCormick said. "I really liked the coach. I met the guys on the team. It seemed like a good fit."

He hopes to make the all-freshman team and make a run to a Division II World Series Title.

Athletic Coordinator Lou Sudholz spoke about the acomplished young atheltes.

"Anytime any of our kids qualify and are honored for their athletic accomplishments, receiving a scholarship, it’s awesome. With times being tough with the economics, it helps out mom and dad who’ve obviously invested a lot of time into them academically and athletically," Sudholz said.
