Renew! Energize! Donate!

Re-Use Your Shoes Big Shoe Sort

Keller Williams Real Estate offices nationwide hold events on the same day each May to give back to their communities. It’s called RED day. The R stands for Renew, the E for Energize and the D for Donate. It’s a day to collectively “give where we live.”

On May 12, agents in my office and I helped local business owner Kevin Kane, who started a charity called "Re-Use Your Shoes," sort through 1000’s of donated used shoes at the Levittown Fire House. My office has been collecting used shoes for a few months now and Kane has been collecting them since last October for his charity to help shoe the homeless.

Re-Use Your Shoes donates gently worn shoes to the Red Cross for disaster relief, Soles4Souls, A Women’s Place for abused women and families, and many other needy charities. Any shoes beyond “usable” are sent to Nike for their shredding program which transforms shoes into playground base material.

It feels so great to give back. We worked just a few hours that day but together we sorted a box truck full of shoes so we all felt the pride of accomplishment. Re-Use Your Shoes has collected many shoes and is in need of volunteers and donated office space. If you can help, or would like to find out where to go to donate, go to ReUseYourShoes.org.

Other “RED” events that my office sponsored this May: Community gardening at the Middletown Senior Center, Red Cross Blood Drive at our office, Morrisville YMCA Clean-up, Sesame Classic 5K and the “Hometown Heroes” party for the kids of military members. This week, we’re working with Interfaith Housing Development to clean-up, pant and fix-up a home in Bristol. Whew! Feels good!
