Gas prices in every state—except Idaho—have seen another decrease since last week, according to AAA’s fuel report. In Pennsylvania, the average for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.552 per gallon down 5.4 cents from a week ago. U.S. gasoline prices in April have continued to fall, the reports states, not just because of weak demand, but oil prices have also moved sharply lower. In Bucks and Montgomery, the average price for a gallon is $3.525 per gallon, which is down 4.7 cents from a week ago, 16 cents lower than a month ago and 45.4 cents lower than a year ago. It's best to stay off the roads during snowfall, but if you must go out, try to follow these guidelines.
Just after 3 p.m. on Friday, snow began hitting the Philadelphia region, starting what the Weather Channel has dubbed "Winter Storm Khan." Khan is projected to deposit about one to two inches of snow in the Bucks-Montgomery County region, possibly reaching three inches in some areas. The continued cold weather will also create icy conditions tomorrow, making road travel problematic. The current national average retail price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.297, which is down .3 cent from a week ago, up 4 cents from last month and 9 cents lower than a year ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. In Pennsylvania, today’s average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.513 per gallon down .9 cent from a week ago, 5.2 cents higher from a month ago and 4.4 cents higher than a year ago. In the Philadelphia market, the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is $3.476 per gallon which is down 1.5 cents from a week ago, 1.7 cents lower than a month ago and .8 cent higher than a year ago. AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays, an increase of 1.6 percent over the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. This increase brings holiday travel figures to within half a million of the decade high mark seen during the 2006/2007 season. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 22 to Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. AAA estimates the national average price of gasoline will slowly drop through the end of the year and average between $3.20-3.40 a gallon by New Year’s Day. AAA projects 43.6 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, an increase of 0.7 percent over the 43.3 million people who traveled last year. This increase marks the fourth consecutive year of growing holiday travelers since 2008, when Thanksgiving travel fell by 25 percent. The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 25. 1. The week-over-week, month-over-month and year-over-year price increases for gasoline are expected to reverse themselves following Labor Day, when summer vacations end and school begins, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. Today, in the Bucks and Montgomery area, gas went up 1.9 cents since last week and about 17.9 cents since last month. That works out to 13.8 cents higher than last year at this time. Locally, the cheapest price for regular is $3.69 at the Five Points Getty in Levittown. Independence Day is the deadliest day of the year for teen drivers and passengers, according to AAA’s analysis of crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Bucks County Technical H.S. students will miss their own graduation ceremony to compete June 12th in Dearborn.
Brandon Darroch and Dave Hippo are finishing their high school careers at Bucks County Technical High School in Bristol, Pennsylvania. But instead of joining their classmates next Tuesday at graduation ceremonies, the pair will be wielding wrenches in Dearborn, Michigan, in their bid to be crowned the nation’s top high school auto technicians in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition. The two automotive students’ last day of class is Friday morning, June 8. On Sunday morning, Darroch, Hippo and their instructor, Byron Cesari, will head to Philadelphia International Airport and board a plane to Michigan. One in 10 residents of the five county area to travel, says AAA.
Are you traveling for the holiday this weekend? AAA-Mid Atlantic estimates that 400,000 residents of the five county area will be traveling this Memorial Day Weekend, despite gas prices peaking near $4 a gallon. The agency defines traveling as journeys of 50 miles of greater. Of that figure, 88 percent plan to drive to their destination, roughly the same number as last year, says AAA.
