Good Idea/Bad Idea? Presidential Tears

Are you surprised at my tears, sir? Strong men also cry.

A video of President Barack Obama thanking his campaign staff went viral on Friday. The reason? It featured the reelected president welling up as he reminisced about his humble beginnings in Chicago. After a long, hard-fought campaign — undoubtedly the president's last — it's hard to begrudge the man a few wistful tears. But not everybody thinks Obama is genuine, even in this YouTube video of an unguarded moment in front of close-knit young staffers. We've had a lot of viral moments in this campaign, and as it closes, this one might be the most surprising.  So we put it to you: what do you think of the president's tears?

Levittown Votes

Election 2012: See How Your Town Voted

Levittown Patch shows the vote breaks down with town-by-town results.

More than 70,000 in the Levittown area took to the polls Tuesday to vote, according to county tabulations. President Obama easily won the popular vote in the lower portion of the county. A check of the presidential election results in local towns showed Obama also won the region in 2008. He won most towns in both elections in a landslide, data shows. The diverse make up of Levittown lead the BBC to called the area the "key to the 2012 election." Whoever wins the majority of votes in presidential vote Bucks County usually wins the national vote. On Tuesday, participation started with heavy turnout that remained steady throughout the day, various election officials told Patch.   Bristol Borough: Bristol Township: Falls Township: Langhorne …

Its the unions and the uninformed people that are brain washed into thinking Obama knows what he's doing cause he doesn't, he's never ran a company nor has he ever understood what it is to work for a living and if you think being a politician is working I could work them under the table. Give me some free stuff I might as well jump on the bandwagon now that I'm thinking about it, I need a $800.00…   more ›

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeats Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from …

Elections 2012

When Will Presidential Election 2012 Results Be Announced?

Pennsylvania polls close at 8 p.m., but they are open in California until 11 p.m. EST.

So you've cast your ballot, maybe even waited in line if you did so in person as turnout appears to be up around Bucks and Montgomery Counties. But how long will you have to wait to find out who'll be in the White House come January? It might be a late night. California voters have until 8 p.m. Pacific Standard Time to cast their Election 2012 ballots, but voting in other key swing states ends as much as an hour earlier, and exit polling could provide an early clue whether President Obama or Mitt Romney us closer to the White House. The earliest key state to watch is Virginia, where polls close at 7 p.m. Eastern. Voting ends 30 minutes later in the swing states of Ohio and North Carolina. As Michigan's polls close, the swing states of …

Pennsylvania Election Results 2012

The Keystone State helped Barack Obama win re-election in what was a good night for Democrats across Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania helped President Barack Obama win re-election as U.S. Sen. Bob Casey fended off a feisty challenge from Republican coal magnate Tom Smith in what turned out to be a big night for Democrats in the Keystone State. Democrats held the lead in three state row office races as of 2:30 a.m. Wednesday with close to 98 percent of the vote in, according to unofficial results. Kathleen Kane, a former assistant district attorney from Lackawanna County, made history by becoming the first Democrat and first woman to be elected as the state's attorney general. The Republican candidate, David Freed, is a two-term district attorney in Cumberland County. Democrat Eugene DePasquale of York leads Republican John Maher of Allegheny in the auditor …

Beware: Robo-call Says Election is Wednesday

Across the country people receive a false robo-call saying the date of the presidential election was changed due to Hurricane Sandy.

Mark Schultz was "a little dumbstruck," but not surprised when he received a robo-call at his house in Holliston, Massachusetts Saturday around noon. The call said "Hi, I'm one of your neighbors in Holliston and ... I want to urge you to vote for Elizabeth Warren and Barack Obama on Wednesday, November 7." The date, said the call, had been changed because of Hurricane Sandy. Thankfully the Democratic Town Committee member knew this information was incorrect, but he posted to Facebook to make sure others knew the same. The caller ID listed it as Massachusetts 000-0000.  The registered Democrat said he has heard of this happening around the country, but not in this area. "It's a new low in campaigning," he said, adding, "I don't know who it …

Survey: Pa. Dems More Unified on Outcome of Monday's Debate

A Patch flash survey of political activists in Pennsylvania shows differing takes on the impact of the final presidential debate

Pennsylvania Democrats sound a bit more confident than Republicans that Monday night's foreign policy debate will help win votes for their candidate in the Keystone State, according to brief overnight surveys by Patch. When asked if their candidate's debate performance will help him in Pennsylvania: When asked who won: When asked who would be the consensus winner, as declared by national media: The catchy phrases that stuck with debate watchers varied: In their survey comments, Pennsylvania Republicans repeatedly noted what they called Romney's presidential bearing: Democrats, in their comments, criticized Romney for being inconsistent and praised Obama's performance: One Democrat was "pleased at the bi-partisan tone of Mr. Romney on those…
