Hats Off to Emerson Students for Fundraising Efforts

Students at Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary raised more than $500 during March fundraising events.

Ralph W. Emerson Elementary School mounted two successful fundraisers in March, according to release from the Bristol Township School District.  On March 1, the school hosted its annual “Hats on Day” for the Foundation for Children with Cancer.  Kids paid $1 to wear a hat to school and the favorite hat in each classroom won a prize.  The event raised $525. March 12, the Emerson Student Council sponsored “Twisted Tuesday” with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House “Change the Luck of a Child” drive.  The kids sold pretzels and raised $55 for the cause.

$152 Million Plan Outlined; No Referendum Set for Bristol Schools

Bristol Township School District Superintendent Samuel Lee said the school system has no plans to place a $152.6 million purposed plan to build three new elementary schools and renovate two middle schools up for referendum. Lee’s statement was met with resistance from some residents who spoke at the nearly 3-hour-long public meeting on the plan Tuesday night. Fairless Hills resident Brian Lachewitz asked for the item to be put on the ballot for taxpayers in the cash-strapped school district to decide. He cited the hefty price tag as the reason for his request. “We can’t afford Beverly Hills schools in Bristol Township,” Lachewitz said. Future of Bristol Schools to be Discussed Tuesday

District will hold a meeting on its proposed closure and construction of new schools.

The Bristol Township School District will be holding an important meeting on the future of the school system Tuesday night in the auditorium of the Benjamin Franklin School on Mill Creek Road. Officials will be holding the public meeting to discuss plans for the district to construct three new K-5 buildings and close all nine older elementary schools. Renovations to Neil A. Armstrong Middle School and the Benjamin Franklin School, which currently acts as an administration building, are also set to be discussed. According to the district, the elementary schools are nearly filled to capacity and more space is needed as more families pop up across the district. Emergency Team to Meet at Croydon School

Officials say not to be alarmed by a large number of emergency vehicles at Mary Devine Elementary School on Tuesday morning.

Bristol Township School District officials are asking parents and residents not to be alarmed Tuesday morning if they see a large amount of emergency vehicles outside Mary Devine Elementary School in Croydon. The school is set to be the site of the Bucks County Emergency Management Team's regular meeting. "As part of the School District's Safety and Emergency Plan, members of our administration meet regularly with County representatives to review safety procedures," a statement read. Recently, Walt Disney Elementary School in Falls Township was used by Tullytown police as the site of a weekend active shooter training drill.

Truman Grad Performs with Beyoncé at Super Bowl

A Harry S. Truman graduate performed at the Super Bowl during Beyoncé's half time act.

Crystal Torres, a graduate of Bristol Township's Harry S. Truman High School, was part of Beyoncé's buzzed about halftime show. Torres played the trumpet during the show on Sunday evening. "We shut that shit DOWN son.... Literally," the trumpeter said on Twitter, citing the partial power outage that struck the stadium just after the halftime show. Levittown Students in Boston Tour Bus Crash Return Home

Students from around Lower Bucks County were in a violent charter bus accident as they headed home over the weekend. A Neshaminy student is in serious condition.

Margaret Ireland waited at the snowswept corner of Radcliffe Street and Mill Street in Bristol Borough with about 10 other parents and relatives of the teenage victims of Saturday’s charter bus crash in Boston. “I’m just relieved they’re back,” the mother said. “I’ve been sleepless since I found out.” The group waited across the street from the office of the Destined for a Dream Foundation. The organization sponsored the bus trip to New England. Shortly after midnight, a large yellow charter bus arrived and roughly 10 high school-aged students and some adults stepped off the bus and quickly rushed into the nonprofit’s office, where they reunited with family and then left to return home. Levittown Students Involved in Boston Overpass Crash

Initial reports indicate a bus headed from Harvard University to Bristol hit an overpass in Boston, Mass. Local high school students were on the bus, media reports indicate.

Sunday, 12:30 p.m.: Police in Massachusetts have identified the driver as 66-year-old Philadelphia resident Samuel J. Jackson. Authorities have not yet released updated information on the conditions of the victims. Sunday, 2:19 a.m.: A tour bus chartered by a Bristol Borough organization struck an overpass in Boston, Mass. Saturday evening. Forty-two students and chaperones were on board the bus when it struck the overpass at 7:34 p.m., according to the Boston Fire Department. The Boston EMS agency reports that 30 people suffered minor injuries. Three were seriously hurt and one person is suffering from life-threatening injuries. 'Little Mermaid' Performances Start Friday, Continue Saturday

Patch grabbed some photos of Bristol Township students practicing for their upcoming performances of "The Little Mermaid."

Students from Bristol Township School District's Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School will be performing the Disney musical "The Little Mermaid" on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. The production will be staged in the auditorium on the former Benjamin Franklin School, which now serves as the district offices. The cast and crew of roughly 75 middle school students has been working for weeks on the play. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. Click here to see the production's poster.
