NHS’s BCIT Department Wins Financial Literacy Grant

Neshaminy High School's Business, Computer and Information Technology Department recently won a financial literacy grant.

The Business, Computer and Information Technology Department of Neshaminy High School was awarded a Platinum Grant of $5,800 to be used to promote financial literacy among high school students. According to a district press release, the opportunity to earn the grant was a result of TruMark Financial Credit Union’s venture called “Kiss a Pig.”  The department took advantage of this opportunity to acquire funds to be used to provide students with the tools needed to learn how to make informed choices as they earn, save, spend, borrow and invest their money. Having received the grant, The Philadelphia Foundation has forwarded a check to the district and the department has already spent some of the money on the purchase of additional finance …

IBM Community Service Grant Supports Neshaminy

IBM awarded the Neshaminy School District a $3,000 grant.

IBM recently awarded the Neshaminy School District in the amount of $3,000. Larry Pastor, a community member and IBM’s Senior State Executive, helped secure this grant to support school district. This grant was awarded to Neshaminy as aresult of Pastor’s request and volunteer service. The district is looking to utilize this second IBM grant to continue the STEM initiative that began as aresult of the IBM grant Pastor secured for the district last year. IBM’s Community Service Grants are based on requests from employees or retirees who have a record of active and ongoing involvement with not-for-profit organizations and schools.

LFHRS Presented With $3K Grant To Help Save Lives

Levittown-Fairless Hills Rotary President Jack O'Connor presented LFHRS Chief Christopher Reif with a grant of $3,000.

  A generous grant will assist the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad in saving lives. Levittown-Fairless Hills Rotary President Jack O'Connor presented LFHRS Chief Christopher Reif with a grant of $3,000 during an event on Tuesday. The funds will be used to purchase EZ-IO needles. "These needles are a way for our paramedics to administer life-saving medications and fluids to our most critical patients," Reif said. State Extends LIHEAP Deadline

The grant program helps low-income families pay their heating bills.

The application deadline for Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) grant program has been extended until April 13, 2012, the state announced Thursday. The LIHEAP program provides grants of up to $1,000 to help low-income families pay heating bills during the winter months. LIHEAP also offers crisis grants of up to $300 for families that experience heating emergencies, such as a broken furnace, fuel shortage or utility termination. Grant amounts are based on income, family size, type of heating fuel and region.  Applications for LIHEAP are available at Sen. IBC Presents St. Mary Medical Center With $75K Gift

Independence Blue Cross Supports St. Mary Mother Bachmann Maternity Center and Children’s Health Center Ministries in Bensalem

  St. Mary Medical Center was presented with a $75,000 gift from the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.  The funds will be used to support clinical care at the Mother Bachmann Maternity Center and Children’s Health Center, according to a news release.  The grant will help the Mother Bachmann Maternity Center provide prenatal care to the nearly 500 women and newborns it anticipates it will care for in 2012, and the Children’s Health Center to provide pediatric care to the more than 3,000 children it serves, according to the release. Neshaminy School District Receives Monetary Donations

The Neshaminy School District has received two monetary donations to benefit district students.

At Tuesday's Neshaminy School Board meeting, Superintendent Louis Muenker announced that the district had received two monetary donations. Read more: School Board, NFT Engage in Non-Binding Arbitration Community member and IBM business executive Larry Pastor, of Middletown Township, worked with his employer to provide the school district with a $10,000 grant. Muenker said that there had been some preliminary discussions on the best way to use the grant money, but the definitive use of that money will be announced to the community in the spring. Lower Bucks Family YMCA To Receive Nearly $1.5M

  Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis recently announced the 57 schools and organizations that will receive a total of $64.4 million as part of the 21st Century Community Learning Challenge Grant. A $10,000 grant from Verizon Foundation helps William Penn Middle School to Pilot New Initiative with Bucks County Peace Center

Municipalities Seek $5M From Casino 'Super Grant'

Bristol Township and four neighboring municipalities are attempting to get a collective grant to replace emergency radios.

Bristol Township, along with four other municipalities, will attempt obtain what they call a "Super Grant" from the Parx Casino in order to pay for a federally-mandated transition to new radio bandwidth which may cost the townships a collective $5 million. Bristol Township Manager Jeff Bartlett announced the plan during a Thursday night Council meeting. Bristol, Middletown Township, Bensalem and two neighboring municipalities are asking for $2.5 million a year for a two-year period in order to pay for the transition. "This is a great opportunity for all five of these townships to act together to pay for this. If everyone who thinks they will be impacted by the casinos comes forward to claim their share of the grant, I bet there will be not enough funds to go around. While this is a legitimate case, who is going to stop sites that run free slots from claiming the grant because the casino is directly affecting their business?   more ›
