Free Pretzels Friday!

The Philly Pretzel Factory store in Levittown will be giving away free soft pretzels to all of its customers Friday in honor of National Pretzel Day.

Sometimes it pays to be the early bird.  Take Friday for instance. The Philly Soft Pretzel Factory store in Levittown is giving away free pretzels all day to celebrate National Pretzel Day. But, if you're one of the first 100 in the door of the 4216 Woodbourne Road location, you will receive a card for one free pretzel each day for the month of May. Last year, Manager Rich Voroscak said the store gave away 450 soft pretzels on the annual day for pretzels, which is celebrated every April 26. This year, he said he's shooting to give away 500 or 550. So, what do all these extra pretzels mean for the people making them? Perhaps just a little more hustling on Friday, Voroscak said.  "Either way they have to come in at 3 o'clock in the morning…

No Grand Plans for Record Store Day

Positively Records is participating in the national Record Store Day on Saturday, but is not giving away beer, or hosting live entertainment.

For all intents and purposes, Saturday will be a regular day at Positively Records in Levittown. Except for one thing: The designation as Record Store Day means 10 to 20 people will likely be lined up outside the 30 x 90 Levittown shop at 4153 Woerner Ave., awaiting its opening at 11 a.m., according to Doug Meginley. "We’re just planning to sell for our customers the stuff they’re eager to get their hands on," Meginley told Patch, adding that some other independent music stores give away beer and stage live music. "We don’t do things. The store is just too physically small." The 26-year-old store, which specializes in new, used and rare CDs and DVDs, has been participating in the national Record Store Day for the last five or six years, …

The confession of the 36-year-old exterminator Jason Smith who allegedly killed Philadelphia doctor Melissa Ketunuti was read in court Wednesday during a preliminary hearing.

The confession of the 36-year-old exterminator who allegedly killed a Philadelphia doctor was read in court Wednesday during a preliminary hearing, according to several reports. Jason Smith, 36, of Crescent Lane in Levittown will face trial on charges of arson, murder and related charges in the death of his customer, Melissa Ketunuti who was a pediatrician at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, according to an article on PhillyBurbs. Smith told investigators, according to previous Patch reports, that Ketunuti "belittled" him when he was on a freelance exterminator job at her brick-faced townhome at 1728 Nauddain St. in Center City on Jan. 21, which led to an argument that escalated. A transcript from Smith's confession was released by…

Journey at Patch Ends for Reporter

Patch's Tom Sofield marks his final day.

June 1, 2011: Levittown Woman Rescued From Cliff At Tyler State Park  - Weeks after starting with Patch.com in Bucks County, that was my first byline on the newly minted Levittown Patch. It was the start of the just over 540 stories I’ve covered for the site up until today. Thursday marks my last day at Patch.com. (This time it’s not a fake out like the last time when I moved to a new position in December.) I have truly enjoyed being out in the community and learning issues and meeting the people over the past two years and especially over the past six months I’ve served as the site's lead reporter. From covering a local sweets shop to middle-of-the-night police news - my time at Patch has been a wild ride. One I’ll never forget. I’d like …

Fairless Hills Home Damaged by Flames

A fire damaged a home under renovation in Falls Township on Tuesday night.

A contractor working on tile inside a home in the 200 block of Doone Road in the Fairless Hills section of Falls Township was alerted to a fire by a knocking sound Tuesday night, officials said. The sound, which may have saved the contractor's life, was made by a fast-moving fire that started outside the house and quickly spread into the attic, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said. The home was in the final stages of being renovated and a family was expected to settle in the house in a few days time, Dippolito said. The fire marshal said he is still investigating what caused the fire. However, it was determined the fire emanated from a pile of construction debris outside. Emergency crews arrived to the house to find flames shooting out of the …
