The recommendations are a result from Vice President Biden's commission that investigated U.S. gun laws in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
In an address to the public Wednesday afternoon, President Barack Obama announced that he will sign 23 executive actions that provide law enforcement, schools, mental health professionals and the public health community more tools to combat gun violence. The actions include launching a responsible gun ownership campaign, having the Consumer Product Safety Commission review standards for gun safes and locks, nominating a director for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and directing the Center for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. The National Rifle Association (NRA) called on Congress to act immediately to put armed security officers in every school and make sure "blanket safety" is in place before school resumes after holiday break. A candle light vigil will be held tonight, Monday, Dec. 17 to honor those who lost their lives in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
To honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Herbert Hoover Elementary teachers have organized a candle light vigil. The vigil will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at Hoover Elementary located at 501 Trenton Road, Langhorne. If you would like to join the teachers and community members in honoring those who lost their lives, please bring a battery operated or wax candle.
