Oliver Heckman Elementary Helps Families Enjoy Thanksgiving

The elementary school's faculty and community worked together to help families within the school to enjoy Thanksgiving.

Through the generous donations of the Heckman faculty and community, 14 needy families from within Oliver Heckman Elementary were provided with complete Thanksgiving dinners, plus additional pantry items. According to a Neshaminy School District press release, the school nurse Colleen McIlhenny coordinated the efforts of the school and community. NHS Family & Consumer Science Students Prepare Annual Thanksgiving Feast

Neshaminy High School's Family & Consumer Science students prepared their annual Thanksgiving feast without wasting any food.

Neshaminy High School's Family and Consumer Science students prepared their annual Thanksgiving feast in Today's Foods classes without wasting any food. According to a school district press release, the students in the Today's Foods classes spent most of November preparing for their annual Thanksgiving feast. They planned menus, collected recipes, wrote shopping lists and prepared the dishes for the meal. The students also studied the history leading up to the historic meal. In the class, time was also spent teaching the technique of formal table setting for a holiday meal and praticing the art of table manners. Photo Contest: What Are You Thankful For?

Share a photo that shows what you're thankful for, and you could win a turkey for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and we'd like to know what you're thankful for! Post a photo of what you're grateful for to enter our contest. You could win a turkey from McCaffrey's (or the equivalent in a voucher), plus a Patch prize pack. McCaffrey's, with stores in Newtown and Yardley (as well as N.J. sites), lost its power last week during Hurricane Sandy and lost its perishable food stock. "It's just food; we can restock that,"said Kathy Bodine of McCaffrey's. "It's nothing compared to what some of our neighbors lost."
