The 5th Annual Polar Plunge will be held at Neshaminy State Park on Saturday, Feb. 23.
It's that time of year again when brave souls take a frosty dip in the Delaware River at Neshaminy Park in Bensalem for the annual Polar Plunge. The 5th Annual Eastern plunge takes place on Saturday, Feb. 23 and will have people "Freezin' for a Reason"—to support local Special Olympics athletes. Individuals and teams can register to participate at $50 per person. Teams must consist of a minimum of 10 people and requires pre-registration. And anyone can take the plunge. Participants younger than 18 need a parent or guardian's signature. A letter from an anonymous tipster is what sparked the investigation that ultimately lead to the arrest of 20 people connected to $1.5 million in thefts from the Bensalem School District, officials said. Bensalem's Superintendent Dr. David Baugh, who took his job in 2011, said he received a letter in February 2012 filled with allegations that school employees were not working. After only an hour and a half of investigating during a break in his schedule, the district head realized something was wrong. The letter appeared to be correct. According to court records, the letter was submitted by a "hard working current employee of the district." Several Levittown area residents were arrested in connection with a massive conspiracy investigation involving thefts from the Bensalem School District.
A year-long corruption investigation culminated in the arrest of 20 people, some from the Levittown area, associated with the theft of more than $1.5 million from the Bensalem School District, officials announced Tuesday morning. Bensalem investigators made the arrests after they launched two separate investigations into alleged misdoings involving district staff. One investigation focused on “ghost employees,” the other on theft and illegal distribution of vehicles and related parts, township Public Safety Director Fred Harran said. District Attorney David Heckler and Harran both said the investigation is not finished and more arrests are possible. Several Levittown residents were arrested as part of of a warrant sweep by Bensalem Township police.
Seventeen people were arrested Friday morning as part of a warrant sweep, according to Bensalem Township Police. Local police and Pennsylvania State Constables conducted an early morning sweep of people wanted from Bensalem, according to Sgt. Andrew Aninsman of the Bensalem Police Department. "In this second phase of warrant arrests Police are actively searching for those people who commit crimes and continue to avoid the criminal justice system," a release from the police department said. During this phase, police were searching for 44 people wanted for crimes such as burglary, forgery, distributing narcotics, aggravated assault, thefts and DUI. Of the 44 people, 17 were arrested. ATM skimmers ― illicit devices that blend into a cash machine's card slot, then record bank card info for later retrieval by a thief ― were found at two bank ATMs along Street Road earlier this month. PhillyBurbs.com reports that the devices were found on Jan. 11 on the ATMs of TD Bank branches at 2751 Street Road in Bensalem and at 701 East Street Road in Lower Southampton. Authorities believe that the devices were discovered quickly and that no customer accounts were compromised, the website reports. Crews from Bensalem, Bristol and Lower Southampton searched the Neshaminy Creek and Delaware River for a 73-year-old woman who went missing Wednesday night.
Thursday, 2:01 p.m.: Authorities confirm to Patch that Jean Carson's body was found in the Delaware River near the Burlington-Bristol Bridge in New Jersey. The 73-year-old's body was discovered near the bridge and state police crews removed it from the water, a bridge employee said. A man wanted in connection with several crimes involving stolen credit cards in Bristol, Bensalem, Falls and Lower Southampton is being saught by local police. The subject entered a local gym and filled out a membership agreement and he was permitted to work out in the gym while the application was reviewed. He then promptly broke into a gym patron’s locker and stole several access device cards, which were used in the Bensalem area. The subject used the name Braon/Brayon Patterson. This subject has been linked to similar activity in Falls and Bristol townships as well as Northeast Philadelphia. When a Montgomery County couple lost their jobs last year, they started a business delivering flowers and tributes and offering a little TLC to area grave sites.
When Horsham residents Julie Marsella and her husband Tony lost their jobs in the fall of 2011, bouncing back with a business of sorts that had grown from "personal interest" was a no-brainer. It was not uncommon for one or both of the Marsellas to frequent cemeteries in Springfield, Bensalem, Warminster or Warrington to pay tribute to their loved ones at their final resting places. But, getting the Marsellas' Beloved Guardians off the ground has proven to be a bit challenging. Friends of Bucks County Technical High School student Ryan Viola raised funds over the weekend to help the Bensalem teen's family.
Chance Dansbury Williams along with two other teens are seen manning a stand at the Pathmark in Fairless Hills over the weekend. The teens were collecting money to help the family of Bucks County Technical High School student and friend, Ryan Viola, who was killed after a strike from a vehicle in Bensalem recently. The teens are set to be collecting money at the ShopRite in Levittown this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Williams' aunt Megan Masterson Soley.

There is an easy fix to these sort of problems. People need to raise children with a zero tolerance for lying, cheating and stealing. Then this sort of thing couldn't possibly happen.
