20-Year-Old Cancer Patient Honored at Blood Drive

A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Wednesday, March 13 in honor of Jean Shapcott, a 20-year-old who has a rare form of liver cancer.

A benefit and blood drive will be held to raise awareness for a Bristol Borough resident who is in stage four of a rare form of liver cancer.  Jean Shapcott, who is a 2010 graduate of Bristol Borough High School—where the drive will be held—found out days before Christmas that she hasfibrolmellular hepatocellular carcinoma. This type of cancer is so rare that only 200 cases have been reported worldwide according to a Bucks Local News article. The drive, which is sponsored by the Red Cross, will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the high school. Vigil Held For Neshaminy Student Critically Injured in Crash

A prayer vigil was held in Penndel Monday night for Boston bus crash victim and Neshaminy High School student Matt Cruz.

Dozens of people descended upon Our Lady of Grace in Penndel for a prayer service held for borough resident and Neshaminy High School sophomore Matt Cruz. The 16-year-old was seriously hurt and remains in critical condition after the bus he was traveling in with over 40 other students and adult chaperons did not clear a low overpass bridge in Boston, Mass. while headed to Bristol on Saturday night. Cruz has undergone several surgeries, friends told Patch on Monday morning. “Our principal told us that when he came out of surgery, either last night or this morning, this morning he could move his feet and his toes,” Sarah Esher, a friend of Cruz, told CBS 3. I am a former Neshamany student and I pray for all of you. You will be in my prayers every night and every day. The Bus driver should have been paying attention to signs. Levittown Students in Boston Tour Bus Crash Return Home

Students from around Lower Bucks County were in a violent charter bus accident as they headed home over the weekend. A Neshaminy student is in serious condition.

Margaret Ireland waited at the snowswept corner of Radcliffe Street and Mill Street in Bristol Borough with about 10 other parents and relatives of the teenage victims of Saturday’s charter bus crash in Boston. “I’m just relieved they’re back,” the mother said. “I’ve been sleepless since I found out.” The group waited across the street from the office of the Destined for a Dream Foundation. The organization sponsored the bus trip to New England. Shortly after midnight, a large yellow charter bus arrived and roughly 10 high school-aged students and some adults stepped off the bus and quickly rushed into the nonprofit’s office, where they reunited with family and then left to return home.
