$152 Million Plan Outlined; No Referendum Set for Bristol Schools

Bristol Township School District Superintendent Samuel Lee said the school system has no plans to place a $152.6 million purposed plan to build three new elementary schools and renovate two middle schools up for referendum. Lee’s statement was met with resistance from some residents who spoke at the nearly 3-hour-long public meeting on the plan Tuesday night. Fairless Hills resident Brian Lachewitz asked for the item to be put on the ballot for taxpayers in the cash-strapped school district to decide. He cited the hefty price tag as the reason for his request. “We can’t afford Beverly Hills schools in Bristol Township,” Lachewitz said. Future of Bristol Schools to be Discussed Tuesday
District will hold a meeting on its proposed closure and construction of new schools.
The Bristol Township School District will be holding an important meeting on the future of the school system Tuesday night in the auditorium of the Benjamin Franklin School on Mill Creek Road. Officials will be holding the public meeting to discuss plans for the district to construct three new K-5 buildings and close all nine older elementary schools. Renovations to Neil A. Armstrong Middle School and the Benjamin Franklin School, which currently acts as an administration building, are also set to be discussed. According to the district, the elementary schools are nearly filled to capacity and more space is needed as more families pop up across the district. @ Chuck Clayton, really you can not possibly be this lost. The BT Schools are old , parts can not be replaced, technology can not be upgraded, as the resident stated at the meeting on Tuesday in reference to Beverly Hills that's not what we want as resident, what I gathered from the meeting is if we continue to band aid our schools our liability for lawsuits be open . BTSB Reorganizes at Special Meeting
The Bristol Township School Board reorganized Monday night.
At a special meeting Monday evening, the Bristol Township School Board reorganized itself. The meeting, lasting all of 10 minutes, placed board member Angela Nober as president. Earl Bruck previous served as the president. Stacy Gerlach was appointed to replace Fredrick Black as the board's vice president. Superintendent Dr. Samuel Lee said at the end of the meeting that Bruck and Black were "incredible shepards and advocates for everything Bristol Township School District." He also thanked them for their service. Pennsylvania requires that school boards meet to reorganize during the first week of December on a yearly basis. The board will meet for a regular business meeting on Monday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the district offices.

BTSD Extends Tax Fee Deadline
The Bristol Township district is delaying tax payments until Dec. 1. The action was taken in light of Hurricane Sandy.
Due to the inconveniences caused by Hurricane Sandy, the Bristol Township School Board at Monday's meeting approved a motion that extends the tax fee deadline. The motion extends the tax deadline until Dec. 1, according to Bristol Township School District spokeswoman Eileen Kelliher. The extension was designed to provide residents “some relief from the delays and inconveniences of Hurricane Sandy,” a district statement said. Penalties on late payments will not start until after the first of the month. Following the storm’s arrival, close to 90 percent of the district was left without working power, officials said. The schools and district offices were closed for 5 days.
