Bucks County Deputy Sheriff James Mitchell was honored by the commissioners for helping save a woman from a Lower Bucks County fire.
Bucks County Deputy Sheriff James Mitchell was driving in his blue county vehicle on the afternoon of Dec. 11 in Bristol Township when he heard a radio call for a dwelling fire on Wynfield Avenue. The deputy got to the scene and found the house engulfed in flames. Mitchell and passerby Mark Cook rushed toward the house after watching a woman go back in. She believed another woman was trapped. At the time, Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the woman fought with Mitchell as he tried to get her out of the burning house. The deputy was able to pull the woman, who was later treated for smoke inhalation and burns, from the two-story home. Fire damaged a home in Penndel Borough on Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
A fire that started on the back porch of a home in the 100 block Dehaven Avenue in Penndel late Monday afternoon left a family temporarily homeless. Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 4:45 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire running up the back exterior of the two-story home, Penndel Fire Marshal James Bampfield and Penndel Fire Company Battalion Chief Gabe Fox said. Bampfield said fire crews made an "aggressive attack" and were able to put the fire under control in about 25 minutes. Flames spread into a portion of the rear kitchen on the first floor of the home, while the bulk of the flames remained on the outside of the house, Bampfield said. A home in the Levittown section of Bristol Township was struck by a fire early Monday morning.
No one was injured in a fire that damage the house at 64 Border Rock Road in the Levittown section of Bristol Township early Monday morning. Fire crews responded to the blaze at 2:02 a.m. and arrived to heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the dwelling, Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said. The cause of the fire remains undermined and the investigation is ongoing. the fire appeared to have emanated from the back of the house, Dippolito said. An adult male was the only occupant home and was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector, the fire marshal said. The smoke detector was key and likely saved the man's life, he added. The Red Cross assisted the man with clothing and food vouchers, Dippolito said.

A law enforcement official and a West Bristol man are credited with saving a woman from a fire that gutted a house Tuesday.
Tuesday, 9:11 p.m.: Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said late Tuesday that the female victim remains in the hospital and is suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. He also said that Mark Cook stepped into the burning structure and pulled the woman out. Sheriff's Deputy James Mitchell arrived to the scene and held the woman from going back into the house. While a cause has not been ruled, Dippolito said the fire likely started in the front living room. Investigators are still waiting to speak to the victim. A man was hurt late Wednesday night when his house caught fire in Levittown.
Thursday, 4:01 p.m.: Brsitol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said Thursday afternoon that the fire was caused by careless smoking by the resident. The homeowner, who lived alone, remains at St. Mary Medical Center and is being treated for smoke inhalation and burns, Dippolito said.
