Emergency Shelter Open in Bristol

The shelter was beginning to fill Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Cross is operating a no-pet shelter at the James A. Gallagher Senior Center located on the grounds of the Bristol Township Municipal Complex at 2501 Bath Road. As of 4 p.m., 35 people were using the shelter and more are expected, Emergency Operations Director Kevin Dippolito said. “Any residents feeling the need to go to the shelter are encouraged to do so,” Township Manager Bill McCauley said. Local residents who were without power came to the shelter throughout the day, Stacey Emery of Red Cross said. While the shelter has electricity, no shower facilities are avaiable at the building, Emery said. UPDATE: Emergency Shelter at Bensalem School Closed

The shelter was relocated from Pennsbury High School to Russell C. Struble Elementary School.

  The Lower Bucks County emergency shelter at Russell C. Struble Elementary School in Bensalem was closed today. It was moved to Bensalem from Pennsbury High School East Tuesday due to a power outage, Red Cross spokesman Dave Schrader said. Bensalem Asst. Public Safety Superintendent Pat Ponticelli told Patch the shelter was closed by the county at 2:25 p.m. He said the two remaining individuals in the shelter were homeless and officials were searching for suitable accomidations for them.

Emergency Shelter in Levittown Set for Hundreds

The shelter is located at Pennsbury High School East in Falls Township.

As the fury of Hurricane Sandy began raged on outside on Monday, about 20 people were in the Red Cross shelter located at Pennsbury High School East on Hood Boulevard in Falls. By Tuesday morning, hundreds could fill the backup powered school gymnasium, shelter manager Stacey Emery said. Red Cross volunteers had hundreds of cots available, she continued, and planned to continue setting them up into the evening. The shelter - one of three in the county - is pet friendly, Emery stressed. Food will be served for those displaced by the storm. The shelter also offers shower facilities.
