Fundraising Gala to Honor Bucks Commissioner

The Bristol Riverside Theatre is holding a black tie optional event Saturday to recognize Bucks County Commissioner Robert Loughery.

Come for fundraising, stay for the arts. That could be the mantra for Saturday night's black tie optional gala to support the Bristol Riverside Theatre. The 26-year-old performance arts venue situated in Bristol Borough is staging an event to recognize Bucks County Commissioner Robert Loughery, who, according to Stephanie King, the theatre's individual and corporate giving manager, was instrumental in helping BRT secure an $85,00, interest-free five-year loan from Bucks County. "He has always been a big supporter of the arts," King said, adding that the theatre has recently added a new scene shop, and a new rehearsal space. "We have a lot of buildings all over Bristol." 7-Eleven Robber Sought in Middletown

Store at New Falls Road and Veterans Highway in Levittown was robbed early Thursday morning.

A man claiming to have a gun walked into the 7-Eleven at New Falls Road and Veterans Highway in Levittown early Thursday morning and robbed the place, police said. No gun was displayed, but the man told the cashier he would shoot him, a press release from Middletown authorities said. The individual made off with a small amount of money and fled to the right of the store at 3:25 a.m., police said. Investigators said they believe the man may have had a getaway vehicle nearby. The individual was described by police as a white male, 20 to 30 years of age, wearing a dark gray sweatshirt and light gray sweatpants. Big Lots in Bristol Plaza Robbed

The Big Lots in Bristol Township was robbed Wednesday, according to reports.

The Big Lots in the Bristol Plaza shopping center on Durham Road in Bristol Township was robbed Wednesday afternoon. Scanner reports indicated a white male went into the store and made off with cash. The robbery occurred just after 2 p.m. and drew a large police presence. The Bucks County Courier Times published a description on their website. According to a Patch reader, police with dogs checked the area for the suspect for nearly an hour.

Car Thief Nabbed by Vehicle's Owner, Cops Say

A Philadelphia man was arrested after he tried to steal a car in Middletown on Tuesday.

A broadcast over police radio led the an arrest at gunpoint in Middletown Township Tuesday afternoon. Dustin Cullen, 26, of Philadelphia, was arrested for trying to steal a car from a gym. Police say it was not the first time it happened. A male victim had just finished his workout at the Plant Fitness in the Langhorne section of the township when he noticed the keys to the vehicle were missing, police said. He ran outside and saw his 2005 block Jeep being backed out of parking spot, police said. According to an affidavit, the victim ran to the Jeep and opened the door and yelled at driver, “What are you doing?” The victim told police that the driver—later identified as Cullen—next closed the door and drove off. 3 Charged in Kidnapping for Ransom Headed to Trial

Three Levittown residents are charged with holding young woman for $700 ransom in November will face trial in Doylestown.

Levittown residents Shawn Gruber, 21, Nicole Gruber, 20, and David B. Sherman, 21, waived their right to a preliminary hearing this week and are headed to trial. The trio are charged with criminal use of a communication facility, unlawful restraint and several other varying offenses. In late November 2012, Tullytown Borough responded to a call from a Shadetree Lane mother who stated she received a call demanding $700 to be delivered to the women's bathroom at the Taco Bell in Tullytown. If the mother didn’t comply, the voice on the phone said they would “blow her daughter’s head off,” according to court documents. Bristol Borough police are looking for a man who stole a woman's purse in the Walmart in Bristol Borough.

Police in Bristol Borough are looking for a man who knocked a woman to the ground and stole her purse Monday night. The strong-arm robbery occurred at the Walmart on Commerce Circle at 7:31 p.m., police said. A suspect knocked the female victim to the ground and stole her purse. He then fled toward Veterans Highway (Route 431) through the Bristol Cemetery, police said. The suspect is described by officials as being a stocky black male between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-7. Victim Buried Alive by Sugar, Coroner Says

A 50-year-old New Jersey man was killed by sugar during an industrial accident in Falls Township on Monday, officials said.

Janio Salinas Valerda was buried alive Monday afternoon after several tons of processed sugar engulfed him inside a hopper at CSC Sugar on Roebling Road at the old U.S. Steel site in Falls Township, officials said. Bucks County Coroner Dr. Joseph Campbell ruled the 50-year-old Edgewater Park, N.J. resident’s cause of death as asphyxiation after a late Tuesday evening autopsy. Investigators said Valerda used a lift to get in the narrow bottom of the large hopper to try to clear a clog when sugar began to pour in. Campbell said the victim tried, yet was unable to escape before being buried in a “bin as big as a room.” Workers at the facility noticed Valerda was missing for nearly an hour and became concerned when they saw the empty lift, the…

Teen Punches Cop After Underage Party, Police Say

An 18-year-old Lower Southampton man was arrested after he is alleged to have committed several crimes in Falls.

An 18-year-old Lower Southampton man is facing charges after an incident in Falls Township where he is alleged to have pushed a female police officer to the ground. Duncan Mullin is charged with aggravated assault, manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, resisting arrest, false identification to a law enforcement officer, hindering apprehension and related offenses. Falls police report they were called to Danbury Road to break up a reported underage drinking party at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. When patrol units arrived, they spotted several people jumping over a fence to flee the party, police said. Fairless Hills Home Damaged by Flames

A fire damaged a home under renovation in Falls Township on Tuesday night.

A contractor working on tile inside a home in the 200 block of Doone Road in the Fairless Hills section of Falls Township was alerted to a fire by a knocking sound Tuesday night, officials said. The sound, which may have saved the contractor's life, was made by a fast-moving fire that started outside the house and quickly spread into the attic, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said. The home was in the final stages of being renovated and a family was expected to settle in the house in a few days time, Dippolito said. The fire marshal said he is still investigating what caused the fire. However, it was determined the fire emanated from a pile of construction debris outside.
