A high school student from New Jersey was presented with a $1,400 scholarship during the Shopping for a Sweetie event at Oxford Valley Mall on Thursday night.

The Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program seeks to meet the financial needs of promising students in communities that host Simon properties, according to a news release.

The scholarship program is available to high school seniors living near a Simon property who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school. The winners are considered at-risk youth.  

Thursday’s event also included a date auction emceed by Fox 29 TV personality Jennaphr Frederick.
