Grundy Library To Present 'Life of Pearl S. Buck'

Learn about former Bucks County resident and humanitarian Pearl Buck's contribution to society on Monday, March 19.

 

The Margaret Grundy Memorial Library will feature a program on author, humanitarian and activist Pearl Buck on Monday, March 19. The program, "Creating History: The Life of Pearl S. Buck" will include a presentation on the legacy and dreams of the former Bucks County resident.

Donna Carcaci Rhodes will discuss Buck's legacy and her contribution to society starting at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Rhodes is the curator of Green Hills Farm, the Pearl S. Buck National Historic Landmark Home that is located in Bucks County.

She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 for her portrayal of Chinese peasant life and for the biographies of her parents, according to her biography on the Pearl S. Buck International website.  She also won a Pulitzer Prize for her book "The Good Earth" in 1932. Her biography also states that she was the first American woman to be awarded these honors for literature.
